Pumpkin Patch

Drew has been counting down the days until her cousin Cade's arrival since we told her he was coming to visit.

On the list of things to do was visit Pumpkin City. Cade was such a good sport, Drew spent most of the weekend trying to kiss him and he put up with it.

Sawyer's Birth Day!

There's a lot to cover in the last 10 days!

Labor for Sawyer technically began Friday afternoon, the 28th, when I started feeling contractions but they turned out to be nothing. However, Saturday morning my water began to break at about 7am and then continued throughout the entire day! But, since I wasn't completely sure it was my water until I talked to the doctor later on, we headed out to the game. I'm sure the Legend of the Soccer Game will grow as years go by and the amount of times we'll tell it, but here's the original version:

As usual, Grammy promised Drew a trip to Tutti Frutti if she had a good attitude during the game. Drill #1 began and we were screwed: Drew walked while everyone else ran, even with both Jeremy and me shouting directions at her, she refused to participate, she pouted, she cried several times and even forced me to physically lift me out of my chair when she continued to refuse to get up. Each time I had to yell at Drew, my water broke a little more and I had to make a trip to the bathroom - which added up to be about 6 times in an hour. Therefore, Drew's terrible, terrible behavior at soccer caused me to go into labor. Above is possibly the only time Drew willingly participated in soccer that day.

After the game, Jeremy and I dropped Drew at Grammy and Boppa's and headed to the hospital, checking in at about 10:45am. Once at the hospital, I started feeling contractions and we moved to the labor and delivery room. At 2:45 I decided that was enough pain and requested the epidural. The doctor came in the check me and said I was 3cm and 80% effaced - not very far for the pain I was in! For the next hour while they administered the epidural, the contractions became really painful and felt really close together and I was in a constant state of shaking from moving into the transition phase. The epidural shot was a lot more painful this time, but I think it's because I was literally having contractions while he was giving me the different shots. It was really hard to remember to breathe correctly so I began to hyperventilate and lose feeling in my hands. Finally the epidural kicked in, I was able to relax while Jeremy, Mom and Kels watched the Ryder Cup.

At 5:15 Nurse Candice checked me again and said I was at a +2 (her head was below the bony part of my pelvis) and was surprised I had gotten so far. She estimated that after all the contractions during the epidural I had probably gotten to 7 cm and once I was relaxed, I moved along much more quickly. She actually thought it would only take a couple pushes to get her totally out and was calling Dr. Johnson to come into the room because it was happening fast.

It took more than one push - 5 contractions at 3 pushes each - and at 6:13pm (2 minutes before Drew) out she came! Kelsey, Mom and Jeremy were all in the room this time and Dad and Drew arrived as I was pushing so we had to stop them at the door before they walked right into the battle zone.
